My NeighbOR FAQ

Q?

WHAT IS MY NEIGHBOR?

A.

My NeighbOR helps communities meet the needs of Oregon’s, children, and families impacted by foster care.

In March 2020, Every Child launched My NeighbOR as an emergency response initiative to mobilize Oregonians to meet the essential and unique needs felt by those impacted by foster care who were at even greater risk due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to its success, it has since expanded to serve every county in Oregon and continues to meet needs every day for families.

My NeighbOR uses technology and community networks to connect Oregon Neighbors to the urgent and essential needs of those impacted by Child Welfare.

Q?

WHO DOES MY NEIGHBOR SERVE?

A.

My NeighbOR serves those currently impacted by the foster system including youth, foster families, and birth families with open ODHS cases

Q?

HOW DOES MY NEIGHBOR WORK?

A.

Foster youth, foster families, and birth families—also known as beneficiaries  can submit requests through their local caseworker or certifiers or through their local Every Child affiliate. Once a Need is submitted:

-- Our team reviews and shares the needs that fit within our program guidelines.
-- The Need is pledged by a community member.
-- The community member delivers the item to a local Anchor Site for pick-up.
*Once the item is delivered to the Anchor Site, a My NeighbOR team member will contact beneficiaries and notify them that their items are ready for pick up or will schedule delivery if pickup is a challenge for families.

Q?

HOW CAN I DONATE?

A.

To meet a need of someone in your community, or provide a monetary donation, please follow the instructions on this page: https://everychildoregon.org/myneighbor/

Q?

HOW CAN I SUBMIT A NEEDS REQUEST?

A.

As an initiative of Every Child, My NeighbOR partners with ODHS Child Welfare Caseworkers to submit needs on behalf of youth and families.

Individuals and families seeking assistance through My NeighbOR can work with an Every Child affiliate to submit your Needs request. Each affiliate may choose to share the link to submit a request differently. Please connect with your local Every Child County affiliate to find out how to submit a request. You can also ask your caseworker or certifier and they will be able to submit a request to My NeighbOR on your behalf.

Q?

WHAT TYPES OF NEEDS CAN BE SUBMITTED?

A.

In order to be a good steward of the generosity of community members who MyNeighbOR prioritizes tangible items that are essential or urgent. We ask individuals and families to prioritize their top three essential needs when submitting their requests.

Q?

ARE ALL NEEDS MET?

A.

My NeighbOR cannot guarantee request fulfillment as needs are pledged individually by community members.

Q?

HOW MANY NEEDS CAN BE SUBMITTED AT A TIME?

A.

My NeighbOR welcomes all tangible needs to be submitted. However, only the three most urgent needs will be posted at a time.
